Mall School

While the agenda isn't yet posted online, the Teaching, Learning, and Student Supports subcommittee is meeting tomorrow at 5:30 pm at the Administration Building. There's one item on the agenda: the mall school. This is partnering with Simon Mall to run our alternative education program. In order for the partnership to move forward, the School Committee must approve it.

If you have an opinion, you may wish to get in touch with a school committee member, or even come to the meeting.

UPDATE: interesting perspective from Knoxville (thanks!)
also Peabody

Also, look at section five of this report:
In addition to helping students complete their required courses, the mall schools stress career training in fields like retail sales and marketing through internships, often at stores in the malls. Much of the curriculum is computer-based, and students work at their own pace in small classes. "Shopping centers are a natural place for kids," said Ron Hanson, vice president for Simon Property Group. "Next to schools, malls have the highest concentration of kids. This program is open 12 months of the year and each day until the mall closes."

I'm unclear on who the proposed school would serve (either geographically, based on ability, or age)

Is there a proposal online somewhere?
