Report of the superintendent is on school choice. We've got a report on school choice INTO the city and school choice OUT of the city.
O'Connell speaks of advertising or being public about programs that have space available.
Boone: full day kindergarten
O'Connell: staff members whose children attend school in the city
Worth sending out a notice to staff?
Monfredo: consider ways of expanding school choice for the coming year
when can we have a report? end of August meeting: being held for that
Biancheria: asks why McGrath Elementary is higher than others
Allen: targeting for full day kindergarten, intentionally drawing students there for full day kindergarten
Pulling kids from Wachusett that does not have full-day kindergarten
Boone: Shrewsbury also does not have full-day kindergarten; enrollment increases are at elementary level, space constraints; monitor in-district enrollment
Allen: Wawecus Road focused on
Biancheria asks what we're doing at these sites to support these increases
O'Brien: regionalization..speaking of being a provider for special education
"how do we convene special education folks from around the region?"
is there anything that currently exists where if a surrounding district wants to send someone from their district, making a payment beyond the school choice amount?
Allen: is an allowance for special education funding, specifically
a bit more complicated for this...those funds would go to the city general fund; currently an item in F&O on this
O'Brien cites the Creamer Center as another example of something we have that we might be able to offer to other communities
Moore working to create incentives to districts to do that
Novick asks if we're asking why they're leaving, if we're tracking if they're staying
survey is out, not yet implimented
