Public weighs in...

suspend rules to allow citizen to speak
Amy Olaes (co-chair of SpedPAC) would like qualifications of teachers available to parents, would increase public and parent trust.
Currently, parents can have that written into a child's IEP, but even then it doesn't necessarily happen.

Tracey, under NCLB every parent has the right to know and request their child's teacher's qualifications. This used to fall under my purview as Manager. Parents can find this process outlined in the WPS Student Policies Handbook.

Yes, it's in there...I think there's some difficulty in getting it. Where do parents best request that information?

The building principal is supposed to give out this info. Since my job was basically eliminated and redefined, I am not sure who has the responsibility for ensuring school-based, non-fiscal federal regs are followed. I wrote that student handbook info several years ago and nothing in the regs has changed. If the principal does not release this info, then I would try the Quadrant Managers or Maureen Ciccone who now has responsibility for Title I. If parents still are not getting any where with this, as a last resort I would call the DESE Title I folks.
