Jonathan Kozol speaking at UMass Boston

I can't go to this--back to back finance meetings--but for those who can:

The College of Education and Human Development
invites you to a keynote address by

Jonathan Kozol

Monday, April 28, 2014 - Campus Center Ballroom
Poster Sessions: 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Keynote address: 4:00 p.m.

Jonathan Kozol has been working with children in inner-city schools for nearly 50 years. Kozol, who has examined the inequality inflicted upon children born into poverty in a wealthy nation, has been called "today's most eloquent spokesman for America's disenfranchised." Following the address, Kozol will answer questions and sign copies of his most recent book, Fire in the Ashes.

For more information and to RSVP, please visit www.umb.edu/kozol

Reception to follow. For dietary or disability-related accommodations, please visit www.ada.umb.edu two weeks prior to the event.

Assistant Secretary of Ed speaking at Smith College tomorrow

file under "gosh, it might have been nice to know this more than 24 hours in advance!"

The Assistant Secretary of Education, Thelma Meléndez de Santa Ana, is the keynote speaker at tomorrow's Otelia Cromwell Day symposium at Smith College. She will speak on "the Administration’s strategies for education reform and the Department’s commitment to improving educational opportunities and resources for all students."
(And I was going to be really impressed, but they're putting her in Sweeney Auditorium at Sage Hall, so they aren't expecting a big crowd.)
While Otelia Cromwell Day is a Smith College celebration (Otelia Cromwell is the first known African-American graduate of Smith; the day celebrates racial diversity), the public is welcome. Sage Hall is at the end of Green Street in Northampton.
