Claremont Academy update

Ricci Hall, incoming principal:
status update on how things are going forward
"recognize the importance of this being created as a team...we're going to create this school together as a team with input from the community and parents as well"
"college and career readiness for all...exposed to the necessary content...necessary thinking skills, which I think is sometimes missed"
"how we go about doing business at the school"
"high degree of personalized instruction...very family feel to that school..goal is that students do not fall between any cracks"
teaming, looping, collaboration, advisory program, extracurricular (a real priority for students)
"high degrees of student inquiry'
Student achievement in the broad sense: a certain way of doing instruction
"what are the students doing" in the classroom?
all students as thinkers, as students, and as people
as citizens of school and citizens of world at large
engage both youth and parents...getting word out to parents
door to door to speak to parents
partnerships with community organizations
"too big and too important to do ourselves"
"teachers as activists and learners"

Biancheria: as we move forward, that communication, data, and respect for staff, parents and students
"that there is evidence that it is there"
waited as a community
"would hope, and would suggest in administration" that the plan include everyone
"not just a few of the stakeholders but all of the stakeholders"
"as we talk about appointing principals, as we talk about innovation, as we talk about Level 4 schools...this was a Level 3 school; we have 27 schools in Level 3"
"that we always recognize...all of students, all of our staff"
give credit to students that are still walking through the doors of their school

Petty: rejects the status quo
"The status quo isn't good enough"
radical change in our school system over the past decades
"I did this for the kids"

Foley: have to change the way we do business
Dramatic change of action
"we are all accountable...what we're seeing is greater levels of intervention"
"have to step up and do something differently"

Biacheria: "I do want to make something clear...when the word "we" is used, it wasn't a unanimous vote, it was a 5-2 vote"
Cannot ignore that we have other schools in the same situation
"we have discussed, we have had conversations"
MOTION: track the number of students that are presently attending Claremont from April 9 to October 1
