Check the evidence

Just a few quick things on today's T&G editorial:
  • The Great Lakes Center for Education Research and Practice's document cited is not a study; it's a 2010 review of all available peer-reviewed research on Teach for America. You might call it a study of studies.
  • As TFA has now been around for 20 years, we have a track record to look at prior to leaping to embrace "innovative" ideas. As a data-driven district, we can do no less.

The Telegram's editorial simply came across as "we read Ms Novick's post that it doesn't work, but we should try it anyway." They just regurgitate the same Republican talking points. There is no actual thinking occurring on the Telegram editorial board.

Mr. Sincola was actually at the event last week, so he did more than read the post. Unfortunately the wonder of having untrained college grads teach in our urban schools has jumped party lines and is now being pushed as much by the Dems as the GOP.
