Questions from members

O'Connell asks if we're ready for these "bumps" going through the system
Boone: capacity is challenge at K-6 level
classes that are larger are due to lack of classroom space in particular schools (this is a vital point)

okay with space at secondary schools
are we losing more kids in 9th grade than usual or is it another dip in population?
trend doesn't seem to be that we're losing significant students, says Boone
is there a plan review on AP planned? so many students in AP, is it bringing the average score down?
"we have not lost...as our number of students participating has increased" Boone
technology on a six year replacement cycle: should we step this up, due to the pace of technological change?
"in direct proportion to the amount of funding given to the district"
O'Connell suggests "some thought on the cost/benefit basis" of a quicker replacement cycle
Foley: makes you appreciate the complexity of the system
AP: giving more kids the chance for increased rigor
facilities: multi-year plan to improve facilities
"may drive in that (Doherty) driveway for that pavement"
MOTION: take a look at the 8-->>9 numbers and 6--->>7
transitional changes made there over last several years

Novick: playgrounds in Gates Lane, waiting on dry weather at Quinsig, playground build at Union Hill on 9.24
library work on 9.24 at Chandler Magnet both need volunteers; please come!
Note again: if we had more teachers, it would not lower class size, unless we also took away school choice
we allow parents to send children to schools, causing higher kids per class
(were it up to the administration to allocate students, we could have 21/22 in every class, but we'd have to take away school choice to do that)

Biancheria: rehab "the talk of the city"
schools that have which APs versus having them virtually
early college high school at North: have preliminary approval

every of the seven school will have a wraparound zone coordinator
for all innovation schools and two Level 4 schools: just got that approval
South High security system: where are we at? contract has been awarded
about 40 cameras going in; six main entrances
may be getting installation as early as next week; second shift

O'Brien asks for a "work to be done" report in a month or so
and how we're doing based on setting money aside
