Report from the State Student Advisory Council from Hannah Trimarchi at the Board of Ed

and I wish we got these reports...
who is the state student advisory council: students from across the state meeting every two months
reps from high schools gather regionally; regional reps gather statewide
"and they get a lot of work done"
"and they're all peer elected"

state has lobbying on a number of issues of legislation
tangible products for students and school leaders: a college and career readiness curriculum
serving as a model for other states and organizations
"getting more students as voting members on state boards"
Sagan: does it work together or in parallel with student government?
Trimarchi: most of the time it is through some student government process

and also:
and statewide group looked at civic education in departmental revisions

also particiated in Malden High walkout and then discussed not only issues involved but also student organizing as interfacing with adults and different groups
"the future really is in good hands"
students ability to pivot and adapt as year goes along
thoughtful discussion among group: "having thoughtful discussions is really hard"
moving empathy into action: easy to let things stop with passion; a lot harder to move that into action
taking personal responsibility: to continue to move things on

going forward: an alumni student advisory council
mentorship for current students
providing continuity: products that have been lost
funding and grant writing: Student Advisory Council doesn't have funding
networking for all involved
community engagement

Sagan: was there a line item or something that was eliminated?
Trimarchi: I don't know; can ask advisor
