(And what if Pearson did get the national contract for tests of the Common Core Standards?)Education commissioner Smith blasted Pearson in a statement Tuesday afternoon, calling its lack of performance "unacceptable." He said he intends "to impose significant financial penalties as a result of [Pearson's] failure to meet contract deadlines."
Under the contract, Pearson could have to pay the state as much as $250,000 for each day it missed a critical deadline.
The penalties cannot exceed $25 million.

Not over yet in Florida
The state of Florida is threatening to fine Pearson for the delays on returning testing results.
