First, the bad news --some recent headlines in the education press:
- Trump promised mass deportations. Educators worry fear with keep immigrant children from schools.
- How trans students and families are preparing for Trump’s second term
- Her wrestling empire was said to harm children. Trump chose her for education.
And yes, a bill has now been filed to end the U.S. Department of Education.
First, please note that this is not only not the first time such a bill has been filed; ABC News correctly characterized this as "continue to introduce bills" to do so. There have been regular attempts to do so since the Department was first created under President Jimmy Carter.
Moreover, doing so will take an organized effort by BOTH chambers, one of which--here's your good news!--is going to barely have a majority:
And the House, remember, is still the chamber that has barely been able to hold it together to keep a Speaker of the House.
