In Worcester? Can you take a quick survey on voting?

Whether you voted yesterday or did not, please take this survey for a research project one of our WPS teachers is doing in pursuit of her Ed.D. She's looking a municipal voting patterns and tying them into elementary school assignments. It's quick and for a good cause!

Thank you, Worcester!

To (briefly) let politics intrude for a moment: many thanks to those who voted for me today. Looking forward to another two years!

Election Day in Worcester!

It's Election Day in Worcester on Tuesday! Municipal elections are those where each voter has the best chance to make a real difference in a race; they have been know to come down to a handful of votes making the difference. Make sure your vote is cast!
If you are registered to vote in Worcester but aren't sure where, you can look it up here.

And P.S.: I heard a rumor that there might be "I Voted" stickers, should that make a difference.

Stand for Children, DFER, pushing Connolly in Boston mayor's race

We've seen this happen from farther away in the past, but it now has come to Boston: the big money ed interests are trying to buy themselves the mayor's seat:
Stand for Children, a national nonprofit, said it decided in early August to back Connolly. The group is planning what one adviser called “a full-frontal assault” on his behalf, replete with advertising on broadcast and cable TV, direct mail, a phone campaign, and door-knocking by more than 1,000 of the group’s supporters.
The campaign is intended to boost Connolly above the field before the Sept. 24 preliminary election whittles the 12 candidates down to two finalists.
A person with direct knowledge of the Stand for Children strategy, who was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter, said the advocacy group had told fund-raisers it plans to have between $500,000 and $750,000 ready to spend by Labor Day.
Having Stand for Children's Jason Williams say that you're "incredibly well-aligned" with their positions means you've given it all away.
Here's what Stand for Children has been up to Boston so far.
And yes, Boston's mayor does appoint their School Committee.
As for me, I'm not endorsing anyone, but I'd take a look at what the Indignant Teacher has to say about Rob Consalvo.

Obligatory election post

If you're reading on a government-owned device, don't worry: this post won't violate the law.

The Worcester School Committee and the Worcester City Council both serve two year terms that are up this year.

I am running for re-election.

I deliberately keep this blog as campaign-free as possible; it's certainly political, and personal, but I don't put my campaign stuff here.

SHOULD YOU BE INTERESTED in such things, you can find all of that at tracynovick.org (or by clicking on this yellow sign >>>>). That's where you'll find information about this fall's campaign, how to volunteer, how to donate, and all the rest.

The only other thing I'll add is that I love what I do and I hope to continue doing it.
Thanks for reading!

Looking for campaign updates?

You won't find them here. While I don't keep the blog politics-free, I do try to keep it mostly campaign-free.
If you're looking for updates on the campaign for School Committee, click on the sign to the right ---->>>>> which will take you to tracynovick.org. We're still in the process of updating it again, but it will keep you updated on all things campaign-related.
And in related news, municipal signature sheets are available today!
