Report on MASC

in lieu of notes, here's what I sent out when I got back:

• The Delegates' Assembly last Wednesday had seven resolutions before it, of which six passed. I've posted the bullet points on that here; note that there also was a "sense of the assembly" that passed, supporting a resolution echoing the call for a three year moratorium passed by several committees this year. 
• Margaret Driscoll of Melrose took notes in several financial sessions over the course of the conference; you can find her notes on those here. I caught the end of the session on "what's next" on chapter 70, as well, which was on the Foundation Budget Review Commission (much discussed this weekend!); I also posted some notes on questions to ask your school business official.
• There was an excellent session on meeting the needs of students in poverty, moderated by Margaret McKenna from the Board of Ed, which I found really hopeful.  McKenna was very clear on the need for organized school committee advocacy directly to the Board as well as to the Legislature.
• While I missed Thursday afternoon's speaker on "The Boy Crisis," you can find Margaret Driscoll's notes here.
• The Friday morning update on state policy was packed to the walls; my notes are here. Again, Senator Jehlen spoke strongly on the need for organized advocacy by school committees.
• The very funny (who knew?) Professor Yong Zhaog was Friday's keynote. 
• I was part of a Friday panel on Less Testing, More Learning.
• And Saturday morning's presentation on "Telling Your Story," which had us thinking generationally about public presentation and advocacy was very interesting.
