Second verse, same as the verse

Because the old chestnut--claims that the Worcester Public Schools spends wildly too much money on administration, and more than their peer communities--appears to making an appearance again this year, I will again note that such comparisons are done by the state annually, when districts report their district spending.

Rather than scanning websites and making guesses about how many people have what position, one can use the standard statewide reporting to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to view district spending through one of the most useful sites in Massachusetts public education, the School and District Profile page. The standard reporting includes a category for district administration with a standard definition. Using the RADAR School Finance dashboard, one can compare Worcester to its peer districts (the largest urban districts in Massachusetts) and determine how much, on a per pupil basis (thus eliminating relative size from the question) each district spends on administration:

Alternatively, one could turn to page 354 in the proposed FY27 WPS budget and find the same information, where it is annually shared in an appendix.
