If you have not yet gotten in touch with Council regarding this year's budget, I would urge you to do so.
I know that everyone hopes (or wishes?) that somehow there's a magical answer that is going to avoid layoffs in schools to balance the budget.
The gap's too big. The inflation rate that the state set this year is far too low. Unless the city steps in, and takes steps towards the level of responsibility assumed by the rest of the state on education, we're going to have a budget that is awful. The statewide average funding above foundation is 17% last year. We've got to do better than zero.

The Worcester School Committee will get the FY15 proposed school budget on May 9 (at about 5). It will go up online that evening.
