Worcester Public Schools FY13 budget

Publishing as we go
Boone: "set the stage from what has transpired since we issued the budget to the school committee"
additional funding and shifting funds to meet priorities
"addressed the request the $5million additional funding for four key areas"
plus class size
work with the city  manager to get additional funds above net school spending
additional dollars to accomplish this
$350,000 from the city for operating
$350,000 match from WPS
city agreed to capitalize funds for environmental mitigation

WEMS science lab: adjusting (again) the plan
total additional contribution from the city is the $350,000 (from police officers being hired in October)
WPS side "looks at using school choice funds" of $192,500 (above the $500,000 usually kept)
savings on postage due to electronic forwarding of direct deposit statements
cut in day-by-day subs


allocation of 19 additional teachers and the 6 nurses
10 elementary positions from city
9 MassCore and career technical
6 secondary positions and 10 elementary positions prepared to allocate to schools
in other words, yes, 10 of those elementary teachers are going back
classrooms above 27 are going first: those are

1 Goddard
1 Grafton St
1 McGrath
1 Quinsig
1 Tatnuck Magnet
1 Flagg Street
1 Union Hill

secondary positions:
1 WEMS science
1 Burncoat High sicence
1 Doherty communication/advertising
1 North technology & business
1 South math
1 Worcester Tech science

 5 positions remain unassigned until August

6 nursing position going to all half time nursing schools:
Challenge and Reach Academy
Creamer
Lake View
Lincoln St
May St
McGrath
Midland
St. Casmir
UPCS
and another at Quinsig


Allen answers that the funds all will be reoccurring on WPS side; city funds are one-time
