The summer reading lists for the Worcester Public Schools are now available online.
UPDATE: T-Traveler rightly points out below that the summer reading list with changes came out of subcommittee, went to full school committee, and then, by my recollection, was sent BACK to administration for further changes. It looks as though changes have been made, but they were not passed by School Committee (I would never have voted in favor of only writing options, for example). I've asked about this.
this probably isnt going back to the TLSO committee. Why is it through 2013
ReplyDeleteWas the intention that by making the project work easier they could ask students to read more books? I would have expected more of a difference between the 5/6 and 7/8 requirements. The book count on the 1/2 sheet is very low (less than 1 per week of vacation compared to the daily reading with your child that is recommended on the same form). My kids are excited about more reading and less work...
ReplyDeleteOn a side note - it's cool to see tumblebooks access (a friend of mine is an elementary librarian in another district and she had shown that site to me - pretty cool). Do you know if there are plans to send out access info in a paper note to parents?
barnstable high has a great website

ReplyDeleteIs Sid Fleishmann the poetry writer a reference to Sid Fleischman the prose writer or his son the poet?
the school district did not include all the used bookstores in the city on the 5-6th grade reading list bookstores. Its hard to see the city pick and choose among vendors. Is there any stated criteria to get on the list?
