The plan is up, and the district is surrounding Belmont Street with lots of support and celebration tomorrow as the kids come back. If you want to help out, you can do two things:
- Send a check made out to Worcester Public Schools, attn. Brian Allen to 20 Irving Street, 01609.
- Wait until the end of today, when the list of what the teachers need donated goes up on the school website. Those donations will be coordinated by Jeffrey Mulqueen.
does the free staff breakfast and the student ice cream party strike the right tone from your perspective? i just dont get it. ...not that theres anything wrong with it
ReplyDeleteI am sure that many of these teachers lost hundreds of dollars worth of materials which they purchased with their own dollars. Spending approximately 2.50 a teacher as a way to say sorry, we were not properly insured to cover your materials, seems a small thing to do. As for the kids, an ice cream treat is a small reward for their "work" place being violated. For many kids, school is their only safe place. Think how we would feel as adults if we walked into our place on work on a Monday morning and found it totally decimated. I know I would like more than ice cream or breakfast for my treat.
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to figure this out. You're right, that it's a gesture, and it's only that.
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to put myself there and figure out what would make me feel better about going back, what would feel supported. I haven't gotten anything yet, other than finding who did it.
Neil and Joan, thanks thats helpful to know about the losses the teachers suffered. I am having trouble putting my arms around the scope of the problem, and un the absence of the wish list I have struggled picturing the problem we are talking about here
