Education law for the year

I received an update recently of what actions were taken on various bills before the state legislature last year. While a number of bills were sent to committee, only one was signed into law in 2008.

SB 2766 was signed into law by Governor Patrick on August 14, 2008. This law

makes tools available to school districts for accurate reporting of high school graduation and drop out data. The law also establishes the “Graduation and Dropout Commission” to study dropout prevention and dropout recovery programs throughout the state. This commission will make recommendations on certain issues, such as raising the compulsory attendance age from 16 to 18. The new law can be found in Chapter 315 of the Acts of 2008. http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/seslaw08/sl080315.htm
