The mood out there

I spent an hour or so outside our local school, collecting signatures on the petition before the Memorial Day concert. The response to a request for a signature was almost universal:

"For schools? Of course!"

And then, under the breathe:

"They could take it out of their raises!"

We got close to a hundred signatures out there this afternoon. All signatures from across the city will be presented to the City Council at the Education budget hearing at 4pm on Tuesday afternoon in the City Council chamber.
