May Board of Ed from the Malden Public Library: opening remarks

ongoing subcommittee on Commissioner's evaluation chaired by Morton
Morton: will present at June meeting



Riley: Teacher appreciation week, future teachers' signing ceremonies
New Bedford teacher Takeru Nagayoshi recognized as 2019 Teacher of the Year

home rule petition sitting in Rules committee for New Bedford charter process
had stressed importance of rolling by mid-May; Legislature needs more time
"my first priority is for the parents and students in the school system"

report coming from him in June on moving forward
"we do need to change"
four themes emerging

  1. renewed focus on classroom instruction, particularly deeper learning
  2. replicate what works but also innovate
  3. holistic supports for every student
  4. state serve as a partner for districts for change
