A few quick things of note: this continues the Focus on Results contract for another four years (at half a million dollars a year); there's a half-time librarian for Union Hill and Chandler Elementary; there's technology for the Goddard Scholars program. Other innovation schools will be getting money through the wraparound services grants and possibly Promise Neighborhood.
can you explain the focus on results contract?
ReplyDeleteT, I can try. If you go back to a post from last January (http://who-cester.blogspot.com/2010/01/presentation-on-instruction-leadership.html), you'll see a presentation we had on Instructional Leadership Teams. The idea, with F on R, is to get, as I understand it, staff buy-in and drive towards what "thing" (usually a data point) that school will focus on.
ReplyDeleteThe principals, by and large, seem to think this is going well. I've heard mixed things from teachers; I think that has to do with how well the school team is reflective of the faculty and how democratic the process is.
I will say that I'd hoped that at some point the outside consultants would become unnecessary, and that this could be done in-district.
Nonetheless, I will say that I'm hearing good things about this.
Just a bit of history. When Dr. Caradonio brought in Focus on Results during the 2007/2008 school year, it was with the intent that they would train district level staff to carry out their mission. This seems to be their largest contract to date. Wouldn;t it be easier (i.e., cheaper) to bring on full time staff who would do the work of FoR? 1.75 MIL? This is in addition to a similar amount that they have already received. Sorry, just thinking out loud.
